about

This song began as a reworking of the Al Green classic A Change is Gonna Come as the Black Lives Matter movement gained traction after the murder of George Floyd by American police officers. “That horrific act resonated strongly with me as a ‘coloured’ person residing in South Africa, where we still feel the remnants of the apartheid regime in our daily struggles,” says Johannes. “This song came to me as a means of catharsis, which I was in desperate need of at the time. Ronan added beautiful paintings of percussion in a way that brought all of my emotions to the fore. My strong gospel roots are also pretty clear in this piece.”
